Stapleton (surname)

The Stapleton family of Old England dates back to the times of Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain. Coming from the term use for a blacksmith, the name was adopted elsewhere.

The Stapleton family was dispossessed from England in the Irish Rebellion of 1641. The Surname was never adopted into the Irish Surnames, however, since they were English landowners. http://www.kaneancestralmap.com/families.html Kane Ancestral Map lists the 780 original and oldest surnames in Ireland one of which is Stapleton.
